“ You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
Can you take a walk and hold a conversation at the same time? How about washing the dishes and listening to music? For that matter can you rub your belly and pat your head?
They say it’s a sign of wisdom to be able to hold to opposing viewpoints in your mind and not dissolve into cognitive dissonance.
But mental views are not the same as feelings and emotions. When it comes to the bus of consciousness, your feelings are in the drivers seat. Your mentality provides the map.
Your mind is good at holding a multiplicity of ideas at once. Your heart likes to hold one energy at a time. Understanding the difference is a key to your well-being.
Here’s why. It’s pretty much physically impossible to be anxious and grateful at the same time. Those are states of being that reside in your heart, and one will crowd out the other, to your benefit or detriment.
Things move fast in your mind, and your thoughts do influence your feelings. But it works both ways. Whatever’s going on in your heart radiates out and becomes the state of your somatic body.
Your heart and your mind are like two hands on the wheel of life. Knowing how one compliments the other is a huge help. It helps you to be kind to yourself and others.
Then again, I’m not you. Perhaps your operating system works differently. Your path to inner peace is your own. To extend the metaphor, your mileage may vary.
It’s just a good question to keep in mind, especially if your mind can’t decide which way to turn. What’s going on in your heart? There’s the dance, start from there.
Much love till next week!
