“ Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.”
~ Henry Van Dyke
Do you ever make assumptions about the future? How much can you say about tomorrow today? What happens when reality outruns your plans?
The future is a funny thing. The closer you are to it, the more you’re inclined to make assumptions about it. The farther out you go, the more your predictions become mere guesswork.
When it comes to tomorrow morning, one hopes that the coffee pot is where you expect it to be. Will we be commuting to Mars a millennium from now? Your guess is as good as mine!
Such is the nature of fate — you never really know what’s going to happen next. As some sage once said — hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
To which I would add; don’t go to extremes.
Catastrophize constantly and you become Chicken Little, stumbling over things because you’re too busy looking up expecting the sky to fall.
Prance along like Pollyanna until your rose-colored-glasses lead you down a dark alley, and you might not notice the dead end until it’s too late.
Somewhere in between is the path of least resistance that leads to your destiny. I believe that love and trust are the keys to staying on track. After all, hate and suspicion will get you nowhere.
Lessons in this come at you when you least expect it. Remember last week’s Spotlight featuring Adam Barley? I pressed send, went to bed, and awoke to the news that he had passed away during the night.
This came as a shock. We’d been in touch several times lately. I’d reached out to wish him well on his recent workshops and congratulate him for getting back in action after a couple of years courageously dancing with cancer.
He loved the idea of leading Listening in the Dark, and he trusted that more workshops were in the works. His attitude, wisdom, and courage are inspiring, and he will be sorely missed.
As for us? Well, eternity is ephemeral, so let’s face the future with our chins up, love in our hearts, and trust in the wisdom of the universe. You never know when the cosmic trickster has other plans.
Much love til next Monday,
Merci et à bientôt!
