Bollywood Dance Fusion™ is a healing movement modality with one simple idea; that if you move and groove to music that inspires you, and connect with your body in a joyful meaningful way, you will be well on your way to health and healing, wellness and recovery!
It started as a feeling, an idea, so many years ago, and has grown into this synchrony of healing, soul movement and magic. I combined my passion for Bollywood dance and music with my clinical training as a psychotherapist, my belief in integrative health and wellness within a framework of mind-body connection, my work as a teacher and educator and diversity trainer, overlaid by my learning as a student of dance therapy…and people responded.
Since then I have provided therapeutic fun and sweaty dance workshops at hospitals, universities, social service agencies, juvenile detention centers, local libraries, in the desert and anywhere else I can get people to move and lift their spirit.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Registered Dance Therapist (R-DMT) and have been dancing, choreographing and teaching Indian modern fusion dance for over 25 years . I also have some formal training in ballet and jazz and am certified in Nia Dance as a White Belt. All this fuses its way into the dance experience making the Dance adventure a fuller more meaningful diverse experience- a mixture of dance and therapy for both the body and mind.
I emphasize safety and self care, I encourage women to share and release stress and to enjoy the movement without inhibition. My students learn about a different culture, have a lot of fun, find a place to relax and feel supported, and get a great cardio workout all at the same time.
If you can create flow in the body, you create flow in the mind….
Bollywood dance is made up of all that is classical and new, traditional and modern, hip hop and salsa, R&B and trance-which is why it is the right fit for mostly anyone, and can be adapted to anyone’s needs and level of movement. My favorite participant is the one that walks into the room pronouncing, “I am just warning you, I have 2 left feet!” 🙂
Come dance for health, come dance for release, come dance for support and self acceptance, for stress relief or grounding. Come dance for fun, for a better tomorrow, to build strength, to breathe, to let go.
I look forward to meeting you on the dance floor,
Kiran C. Easwarachandran, MSS, R-DMT, LCSW
