This week’s Dance First Member Insight is from Brietta Leader and the WildCore Movement!

Welcome to WildCore™ movement, an exploration of
Choreography, Conscious dance, Breath-work, and Belonging.

WildCore™ is a dance-based practice that explores the wilderness of body and soul. Leading the dancer on a path of untamed self-discovery, healing, and expressive movement that uses the power of metaphor as a bridge between the physical and energetic bodies.

In a WildCore experience, we align with the seasonal shifts, natural cycles, the 5 main elements, and recognize our impact as individuals in our community and world.

Each class blends choreography, conscious dance, breath-work, and belonging, which naturally awakens our inner dancer, enlivens our well-being, and inspires self-healing. The class begins with a focus or thread that is woven through the class or workshop. WildCore threads can be somatic, energetic, from a poem, honoring seasonal shifts, the elements, or inspired from the living moment. The thread always leads us into a deeper exploration of the physical body. A weaving begins on the dance floor: an exploration of an idea will be danced and worked through somatic explorations and finally ready to be creatively woven into the students’ everyday dance of life.

The choreography of WildCore has roots in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African, Nia, Yoga & Bellydance. A few glittering impressions come from Jane Fonda, The Fly Girls, and the Solid Gold Dancers – reflecting influences from Brietta’s childhood. The choreography was born from the creative moment, captured and retained to enhance the expression of the music. It is used as a platform to expand awareness and play with threads. Students are encouraged to add their personal details and unique expression.

WildCore offers the simple techniques of energy sweeping, adapted from both the Pranic Healing modality and the shamanic practices of the Peruvian Inca.  Students of WildCore are encouraged to practice being aware of the living moment pulsing through their veins as they dance throughout the class. During whole songs or periods of time we may spend in free-dance or conscious dance, open invitations are given to return to the breath, enliven the thread or focus of class into your own movements and take time to listen to the body, the intuitive voice, and fully commit to this time to self-heal.

In a WildCore class, the body is the primary teacher. The instructor is secondary, empowering the students to listen to their body sensations and somatic cues. In this way, the students can deepen their relationships and modify movements and energy levels as needed.

Everyone is welcome in WildCore. In the WildCore practice, the breath is the best guide into the wilderness of body & soul. As the class or workshop moves along, the exhale offers a place of release, the inhale a time of renewal. The class may include specific pranayama exercises to enhance an opening of an energy center. We may use the voice to release our emotional body or enhance the sense of community and celebration.

In a world where the illusion is that we are separate, WildCore offers simple reminders of inclusion within the dance. The pranic wheels offer time to both support others and are supported as we dance our truth. At the end of class, we often create a circle, aligning our energies with our source, each other and the collective. We are separate, and we are one.
