“ You gotta try your luck at least once a day, because you could be going around lucky all day and not even know it.”

 ~ Jimmy Dean

Do you enjoy the feeling of anticipation? Does it sometimes come with shades of trepidation? What’s so important about expectation?

You, being human, have some unique capabilities. You have the ability to cogitate, speculate, and create. Your mind can take a flight of fancy and position itself not only in the present moment, but in the past, the future, or some other entirely imagined realm.

Your brain can dance around the notions of time, space, and the universe as nimbly as Nijinski.

It can all get to be a bit much. As far as I know, we are the only animals that intentionally seek out ways to be more aware of the present moment. For all the other creatures what we call mindfulness is the default.

If you’re anything like me, you know what it’s like to occasionally have a lot on your plate. My to-do list runneth over. Taken to extremes, awareness of the past, the future, or some imagined outcome can lead to anxiety, dread, or worse.

The nature of life is to dance upon a tightrope between what’s going on with us in the present moment, and any number of potential outcomes, planned for or otherwise.

They say, (whoever they are), that we should manage our expectations. Wise advice as that may be, it doesn’t preclude you from thinking big.

“Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst” is a well-worn cliché with a kernel of truth in it. But hope only goes so far.

Without faith in your abilities, trust in your judgment, and belief in the possibility of miracles, hope alone is pretty flimsy.

These thoughts arise from noticing what works with people that seem to have “good luck” and seeing what doesn’t in those who don’t.

What do people who make their own luck have in common? Well, it seems to be a combination of the aforementioned faith, belief, and trust in the universe, combined with a willingness to simply go with the flow and be in the present moment. It helps to Be Here Now if you want to recognize and seize opportunities when they occur.

People who make their luck also don’t get stuck and hung up when things go sideways. They know it’s not worth dwelling on something that didn’t go their way, they’re willing to just suck it up, shake it off, and move along.

Good fortune has a high vibration, and good vibes tend to attract. Keep yourself tuned up with goodwill, kindness, benevolence, and gratitude, and you might be pleasantly surprised at the blessings that land in your path.

Much love till next Monday!
