Have you ever ‘put your hat in the ring’? ‘Rolled the dice’ to see what you could make happen? Set an intention and then followed through with the appropriate action, even if it felt like a long-shot?

“Putting yourself out there” is one of the things we all have to do in life. Whether it’s as basic as the job interviews we did when we were done with school, or as complicated as the serious proposals we put together as seasoned professionals, our path only unfolds when we lob the ball further down the field.

You simply have to trust in the universe and keep trying. Not everything is going to pan out, and and even though at times it may feel like we’re beating our heads against the wall, nothing happens if we don’t try. I call it “pushing on the field.” and by that I mean making moves that put positive pressure on the morphogenetic field or ‘ether’ to use a more archaic term.

Lately for me, there’s been a few good examples of “nothing ventured, nothing gained.” If I hadn’t dipped my toe into the online dating waters, I wouldn’t be so optimistic about the new lady in my life. If I hadn’t written up good proposals for Lucidity, I wouldn’t be DJ’ing and teaching an Analog Awareness workshop at the big festival in Santa Barbara in April.

And if I hadn’t offered my services to Turning the Wheel, I wouldn’t be going to Boulder next week to teach kids about vinyl and spin records at the Movement Mondays Ecstatic Dance on March 6th and at Melissa Michael’s Movement Mass on Sunday March 12th. I’m also offering a special one-off Magnetic Marketing Workshop on Tuesday evening, March 7th at Free Motion in Boulder, so make a note and tell your facilitator friends.

I’m really looking forward to visiting Boulder and returning to my old stomping grounds. I’m sure I’ll be inspired to write lots more about it after I walk down Pearl Street and breath the fresh mountain air blowing down off the Flatirons.

The point is, the universe likes it when we take action. It all starts with the spark of a thought or idea. That’s the stage where it’s safest to mull it over on our own, check in with our intuition, both heart and gut, and then decide for ourselves if it’s worth moving forward with. Then comes the word, and once we utter our intention, the universe hears the vibration. When we share the words with another person, the pebble is officially in the pond and it’s up to us to follow through on the ripples.

That’s why it’s not always a good idea to put things into words unless we’re prepared to take action. Sure, it’s ok to speculate, share ideas, talk things over and get feedback before committing to move forward, but getting into the habit of ’talking without doing’ will dissipate your potential for results in the long run. That’s why the old adage ‘actions speak louder than words’ holds up so well.

So next time opportunity knocks, remember who it is that’s standing on the other side of the door. Their name is Work, and when your thoughts and words meet a chance worth taking, take Work by the arm and step into action together. Our wonderful non-linear universe will welcome the two of you on the path and conspire to help you in the most delightfully unexpected ways.

Much love till next week!

Dance First Member Spotlight: Lucy Wallace & Alchemy of Movement

AOM-Lucy

This weeks Dance First member spotlight is shining on Boulder-based Lucy Wallace. She’s a SoulSweat facilitator and current owner of the Alchemy of Movement studio in Boulder. With over 10 years experience as a movement leader and dance facilitator she brings a wealth of experience and a magnetic vibration to all her work.

She’s also the founder of Dance 2B Free, an organization with the mission of sharing the healing power of dance with women in prison nationwide. Launched with a weekly class at the Denver Women’s Corrections Facility in July 2015, they are now expanding into Pueblo, CO; York, Nebraska; and Honolulu, Hawaii with their Teacher Training program.

SoulSweat is a dynamic movement practice that blends the energy of fitness with the spirit of conscious dance. Your emotional and spiritual aspects are opened up and nourished in this easy-to-learn and life-affirming practice.

SoulSweat is a regular offering at Alchemy of Movement, and for a deeper experience and an epic adventure, you can join Lucy with co-facilitator Gayle Nosal on the Big Island of Hawaii at the Kalani Retreat in May where they are hosting a six-day retreat from May 15-21.

Gayle is a long-time SoulSweat dancer and poetry enthusiast who will be leading the post-dance writing sessions each day where you can allow your words to dance and improvise and reflect your insights and inspirations spontaneously.

If you’ve never been to Kalani this is a perfect opportunity for you. Beyond the nourishing SoulSweat and poetry writing offerings, you’ll enjoy three excellent organic meals a day, yoga and meditation classes, Kalani’s world-class pool, hot tub, and sauna, and visits to both the nearby Black Sand Beach and the Queen’s Ponds.

Hat’s off to you Lucy for all your hard work and dedication to the field! I’m delighted to see you and your work reaching out into the world and I highly recommend your retreat to anyone wishing to deepen their dance and movement practice.
