“ The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.”

 ~ Albert Einstein

There’s nothing like the turning of the calendar page to the New Year to make you wonder about the nature of time.

Last week I spared you the bother of another year-end recap, so this week I will dispense with the usual New Year prognostications and predictions.

(Except to say that: I am sure you’re going to have a great year, you’re going to make big progress on all of your dreams, you’re going to feel more safe and happy and secure than ever, and you will be surrounded by love and kindness!)

But with another year behind us, and a fresh one on the horizon, it seems that a little thought experiment may be in order. Do you ever meet someone and you feel like you knew them before? Or that strange feeling of déjà vu when your memory sort of goes both directions at once?

Of course, there’s the age-old idea of two souls reunited after time together in a past life. At the bottom of any of these questions and ideas is the fact that consciousness is still a mystery. We still don’t quite know what it is, or how it relates to our relationship with the universe.

Common sense would say that time travels in one direction. Indeed, Einstein’s theorems say that this is so. However, how consciousness interacts with the realm of time is anyone’s guess.

Whenever you entertain the notion that perhaps you and someone else’s souls or karma were somehow inextricably connected at some point or another, you typically think about it in terms of past lives. But wait a minute!

If we are to allow the possibility that time is nonlinear in the realm of consciousness, then who’s to say that perhaps you were acquainted with this other soul sometime in the future? That maybe, just maybe, the current life you are leading is ancient history in relation to the one that you came from?

In other words, you may have been soulmates at some point in the future! And the next time you are together may be centuries in the past!

When it comes to questions about time and consciousness, two elements for which we have a little understanding, the best you can do is to keep an open mind and take the big picture view. After all, who knows?

Mysteries abound and behind each answer lies another deeper question. Making the most of each present moment will always be the one thing you can count on!

Wide-eyed and open-hearted into the New Year we go!

Much love till next Monday!
