“ You don’t have to swing hard to hit a home run. If you got the timing, it’ll go”

 ~ Yogi Berra

How do you fine-tune your timing? Does maintaining your momentum keep you in the flow? How important is it to be on time anyway?

If time is a wave, then we are all surfers. Like it or not, the swells just keep on coming. Staying afloat and keeping your surfboard pointed in the right direction is more than just a life skill, it’s a matter of survival.

For some folks, punctuality is a big problem. Have you ever known someone who is chronically late? As the clock ticks past the appointed hour, your annoyance-meter pushes into the red. They finally breeze in on a gust of entitlement, tossing around excuses like confetti at a parade. Depending on your temperament, you’re either left loudly snarling or quietly rolling your eyes.

Being on time is a mark of respect. Making folks wait is a way of saying that others are beneath you. But each day blesses us with exactly 1440 minutes to work with, no matter how important we think we are.

The phrase “timing is everything“ applies to almost anything. As so many have said before, the key to success often lies in simply showing up. Early birds enjoy an abundance of worms.

Being in the right place at the right time all the time is a skill that you can build. The underbelly to that idea is that you have to accept things as they are when things go pear-shaped. It’s a waste of time to dwell on the wrongness of the place or time later. You have to keep moving, maintain your momentum, and stay nimble in each present moment as it arises.

The key to moving forward is to not get hung up. You can trust in the universe that another wave is on the way. We are all dancing on a wave of our own so we do well to learn from those who’ve mastered the art!

Merci et à bientôt!
