“It seems to me that one of the great luxuries of life at this point is to do one thing at a time. One thing to which you give yourself wholeheartedly — uni-tasking”

 ~ Michael Pollan

Do you ever feel like you’re juggling with one too many balls in the air? Does looking at your calendar make you feel like you’re trying to fit six pounds of oranges into a five pound bag? Will one more thing on your to-do list be the straw that breaks the camels back?

Busy people get stuff done. That is a fact of life. When you need help, the wise move is often to ask someone who is already in motion producing results. Folks who spend more time conceptualizing than getting down to business are often still on the starting line while the go-getter has finished the race.

For all of us, life ebbs and flows. The times when the universe allows us to pause and catch our breath balance the moments when we are full speed ahead.

When life‘s coming at you from every angle, brimming with blessings or challenges to overcome, there’s a temptation to spread yourself thin. One might think that multitasking is the secret to getting more done, but in general, the opposite is true.

When my whirlwind of activity turns into a tornado, my mantra is “one thing at a time.” From the smallest task to the biggest project, when I can ratchet down and keep my eye on the ball, it’s easier to check things off the list. I’m not always successful, what they now call ADHD we used to just call scatterbrained, but diagnosis or not, it’s a form of mental fitness to train your brain to stay on track.

The trick is to catch yourself when your mind starts to wander. We are always in a dance with the task at hand, and just one shiny object away from missing a step.

One day, one year, one life at a time. Whether you can walk and chew bubblegum or not, your reality is defined one fleeting present moment at a time. That’s not to say a single moment might have your body in motion while you’re listening to music and hatching a brilliant idea, but when the dishes are 90% done, that’s not the time to stop and take out the trash.

May your moments be focused, your body be bouncy, and your mind nice and limber — much love until next Monday!

Merci et à bientôt!
