United Kingdom Medicine Dance Immersions

Pack your bags for a major field trip through the  magical lands of England, Scotland, and this year for the first time, Ireland.

This year we will be presenting sessions in the Universal Hall in Findhorn, Scotland, the Big Shed at Loch Tay, Collessie Victory Hall in Fife, Scotland, a location to be announced in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, The Hearth in the Scottish Borders, The Fellside Centre in Kendal, England, Hebden Bridge Sanctuary in Hebden Bridge, England, Sambogaya Retreat Center in Glastonbury, England, the Scout Hut in Bristol, England, and Margaret’s Yoga Room in Eyeries on the Beara Peninsula, Ireland.

During these one, two, three, and four Immersions in the UK, we work with particular themes (to be announced), and:

  • Inner-directed self guided fluid movement through the Body supported by Thought and Feeling and Sensation, Word and Witness and Music
  • Silence and Stillness and Sound
  • Spontaneous Ceremony, Ground and extraordinary Breath
  • Mindful touch with more and less contact with partners, always optional based on your level of comfort, sense of safety and desire

Colleen and Fred’s relationship to the United Kingdom began at the beginning of this century, when Jane Virginia, on a month’s long visit to see her daughter and two sons in Southern California, landed in a Medicine Dance session in Santa Monica. For the next ninety days, Jane engaged in everything Medicine Dance. By the time she was ready to return to her small rural village in Northumberland, England, she expressed desire to share the work with an existing group of her women friends. They had been regularly studying Qi Gong and Matriarchal Studies together. Fast forward to 2008 when Colleen asked Jane if her chums would like to immerse themselves in a 5-day version of the work.

The warm worn timbers of Bolton Village Hall have been home base for our yearly sojourn to the UK for the past 15 years, hosting our flagship 6-day program scheduled around Beltaine, an ancient celebration of fire, fertility, and rebirth. This year, beloved Bolton Village Hall will lay fallow.

Physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhilarating, Medicine Dance is a verbally guided, often music-accompanied movement experience. We identify present moment thoughts, feelings, and sensations and invite them to be expressed through the body. In a Medicine Dance class or workshop we dance from the inside, out.

There is attention on Self, time with partners, and time with smaller and larger groups. Every participant always has the option to work individually, in the belief that our most significant partner is our Self. No dance experience necessary.

“We find solace, connection and a sense of mending and wholeness within the movement we see on the outside, and the movement that we can feel on the inside. Our desire and our practice is to join in with that movement which is occurring inside of us, in our deep inner cave that is so personal and so private that words become inadequate to describe. Why describe? Because we want to share, we need to share; we discover our own and each other’s magnificence and brilliance and unadulterated being alive and it is not possible to not want others to taste and smell and feel what we have discovered” – FLS, Founder
