In a world that feels busy and uncertain, how do we find our footing and reconnect with the wisdom within us that is mirrored through the natural world?

This movement workshop series invites you to explore your body as a sensory gateway and nature as a living portal. Together, we’ll awaken and connect to a deeper presence within yourself, honoring cycles of chaos and renewal, reflected in Earth’s rhythms.

Grounded in the Indigenous principle that we are all part of nature, this workshop helps you:

  • Remember your multiplicity: Moving in different ways reminds us of the richness of our being. We’ll nurture and enliven our sensing imaginative feeling body.
  • Cultivate inner grounding: When life feels shaky, finding a stable center can be a valuable anchor. We’ll practice rooting into our bodies, drawing strength from the steadiness of mountains or the deep roots of trees.
  • Cultivate fluidity: When uncertainty asks us to be flexible, we’ll learn from nature’s cycles. We’’ll explore how to yield and adapt, much like water finding its path or the dawn breaking through the sky.

Using the tools of the Life-Art Process, we’ll awaken our supportive somatic bodies. We’ll activate various movement qualities found in nature and in ourselves such as rising /falling, flowing/ resisting, rooting/ expanding. Drawing and writing will help illuminate our inner landscapes. Empathic witnessing will deepen our shared experiences. And in our final session, we’ll create an art ritual to integrate the wisdom of nature mirrored through our sensing bodies.

No dance experience required, only a willingness to explore! Please have a comfortable space to move and drawing and writing materials on hand.

To get the most out of this online class, please prepare a comfortable space to move in with access to your online device and reliable internet service. If you are using a handheld device, such as a pad or phone, please be sure to use a stand for your device so that it is held securely in place. You will want to have your hands free and be able to move freely and safely during movement exercises without worrying about your device falling. Have art supplies ready at hand for the drawing activity and paper and pen for journaling and creative writing exercises.

Workshops are for ages 18+ only and disability access is not provided.

Tamalpa Institute, founded in 1978 by dance and expressive arts therapy pioneers Anna Halprin and Daria Halprin, is a non-profit organization internationally recognized for its ground breaking training programs & workshops in a unique approach to movement based expressive arts education and therapy.

We offer expressive arts training programs and workshops for healing, education, and social transformation. Our innovative work has been brought into classrooms, businesses, hospitals, mental health care settings, hospices, prisons, and disadvantaged communities, among others. The Tamalpa Life/Art Process®, which combines movement, dance, drawing, and writing, has influenced the fields of dance, environmental design, theater, movement therapy, and art-based psychology. Our approach is based on the theory that people’s own life experiences are the most meaningful sources for artistic expression and social change.

Tamalpa has worked with over 10,000 people from more than 50 countries, including students, educators, therapists, artists, social workers, and health care providers. Today our movement-based, expressive-arts training programs are ranked among the best in the world. And our public and social engagement programs serve diverse communities from all walks of life, including children, elders, and virtually everyone in between.

Tamalpa Institute’s programs are recognized by the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA) and the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA).
