Originated by the pioneering environmental designer Lawrence Halprin, the RSVP Cycles and Scoring is an innovative system of design to generate creativity toward more meaningful experiences in our individual and collective lives. While the RSVP Cycles and Scoring was originally intended to provide a generative methodology for group creativity in environmental planning, dance and theater, and community renewal, we explore its transformative potential when applied to our own individual lives.
Drawing upon 40 years of experimentation and implementation as part of the Tamalpa Institute training programs, in this workshop you gain a practical understanding of the principles and practices of the RSVP Cycles and Scoring. In addition, you receive guidance on how to practice this methodology to enrich and enhance creativity as part of your daily life, to help you live your life as art.
About Ken Otter, MA, PhD – I got my first taste with RSVP Cycles and Scoring in 1981 as a participant in the Search for Living Myths and Rituals in Dance and Environment led by Lawrence and Anna Halprin. I have made this my business to learn, practice and share this resource ever since. In addition to teaching and facilitating the RSVP Cycles and Scoring within the Tamalpa Institute training programs since 1993, it has been an integral part of my work in academic, organizational and community settings as well.
To get the most out of this online class, please prepare a comfortable space to move in with access to your online device and reliable internet service. Also, have art supplies ready at hand for the drawing activity and paper and pen for journaling and creative writing exercises.
